Members of Parliament (MPs) affiliated with the Opposition's INDIA bloc are planning a sartorial protest in Parliament this Thursday over the government's handling of the Manipur issue, according to inside sources. MPs from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) have been urged to wear black attire to symbolize their discontent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the matter in Parliament, revealed an MP from the Opposition group.

Furthermore, a no-confidence motion against the government, initiated by Congress on behalf of the opposition alliance, has been approved by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday. The speaker stated that consultation with all parties' leaders will occur before a discussion date on the motion is decided.

The Opposition, known for using black attire as a form of protest against the government on different issues, insists that a statement from Modi on the Manipur issue is necessary before any parliamentary debate can commence. Consequently, with the opposition and treasury bench members standing firm on their stance, a stalemate ensued in both houses. The Monsoon session, which began on July 20, is expected to end on August 11.

Since the eruption of ethnic violence in Manipur on May 3, over 160 individuals have lost their lives, and several hundred have been wounded.
